Lewis Hamilton labeled the 2024 British Grand Prix Mercedes’s best session as a team after securing front-row lockout with his teammate.

Seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton qualified in P2 for the 12th round of the season at his home track, Silverstone Circuit.

The only driver who was able to put in a faster lap than the 39-year-old was his teammate George Russell, who scored his second pole position of the season (the first one being in Canada).

Silver Arrows could not be in a better position to score a win in front of their home British crowd, but it won’t be easy for them as Max Verstappen and Lando Norris start right behind them and will be looking to put pressure from the beginning.

Discussing his performance after the session on Saturday, Hamilton shared some optimistic thoughts with the media as he expected his car to be even stronger on Sunday.

“I was cautious with my setup, more thinking to have a nice balance in the race rather all for one particular lap, So I do think that the car will be good tomorrow.”

Mercedes has not secured a front-row lockout since the 2022 Brazilian Grand Prix, which took place 34 race weekends ago.

For the last couple of races, the German team has consistently introduced upgrades at every track, and this is now yielding positive results. The seven-time World Champion added:

“To just have the real pace and be able to actually compete with the McLarens and Red Bulls, I think, is incredibly satisfying, just really a huge boost for the team.”

“And the car felt great, a huge congratulations to George for getting the pole, but to be on the front row, I think, is massive for our team, so many of them are here this weekend and with their families, and it’s been a long time since we’ve had it so this is a great feeling.”
