Christian Horner commented on the performance of Red Bull’s second driver, Sergio Perez, after the tenth round of the season in Spain.

Sergio Perez has had a couple of very tough weekends. It has become clear that Red Bull no longer has the fastest car, and this is reflected in the 34-year-old’s results.

In the last four Grand Prix, he scored only eight points. On the other hand, his teammate still proved that the Red Bull car was capable of winning as he scored three wins and 83 points in the same period.

The Mexican driver wanted to get back to his groove in Spain, but he qualified only in P8, and with a three-place grid penalty, he had to start from P11.

It was a challenging race in the midfield for the Red Bull Racing driver, who had to go for an alternative strategy as he struggled with overtaking and managing his tires at the same time.

Ultimately, Perez finished where he qualified- P8. Speaking to Sky Sports after the race at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner defended the performance of the Mexican:

“If I’m not wrong we have scored the most points as a team, so as long as we keep doing that, the constructors’ continues to look healthy.”

“Sergio had a great start to the year. We just need him to get back to that form that he had in the first four or five races. we know he can do it. It’s just getting him into the right headspace to deliver.”

In the first four races, Perez scored 64 points, which is approximately 36% more than he scored in the remaining six- 47 points. Horner doesn’t think more was in the cards for Checo in Spain but said the Austrian team needs more from him moving forward.

“We put him on a three-stop, and it worked out. He passed Gasly on the last lap. He will take quite a bit of confidence out of that race.”

“Theoretically, we said eighth was the best he could do when you look at all the sims, and he achieved that. He will have taken a bit out of this weekend, but we need to get him more into the mix.”
