Toto Wolff claims Jos Verstappen wouldn’t be ‘bad at all’ for Mercedes after Christian Horner’s comments

Toto Wolff got involved in a war of words at Red Bull concerning Christian Horner, Jos Verstappen and Max Verstappen’s commitment to Milton Keynes. Horner joked that only Verstappen Sr. would be available to join the Silver arrows.

Toto Wolff replied to Christian Horner’s hilarious jibe. The Mercedes boss stated that he hadn’t actually heard Christian Horner comments himself, highlighting that they were not worth paying attention to. Wolff said he didn’t think Horner’s idea that Jos Verstappen would be bad for Mercedes made sense. Instead, he hinted that the senior Verstappen could actually be good for the team and potentially bring values with him.

I didn’t hear that at all It’s just silly. Christian [Horner] is babbling and Jos [Verstappen] wouldn’t be bad at all [as an acquisition] either.
Toto Wolff said, as reported by RacingNews365

Toto Wolff emphasized that Mercedes currently focuses on enhancing their own performance. He noted that a fast car would attract top drivers like Max Verstappen to consider joining them. Wolff highlighted there’s need for improvement because Mercedes wasn’t performing at their best right now. By improving speed and performance, the 52-year-old hinted at becoming an appealing team for drivers like Verstappen in the future.

The important thing is that we look at our performance. If we have a fast car, then fast drivers want to drive with us. We have to improve, because then we will also be a good destination for Max Verstappen.

Mercedes claims Lewis Hamilton had floor damage during Sprint Qualifying
Mercedes engineering director Andrew Shovlin in an interview said, Lewis Hamilton faced a damage to his car’s floor. This affected Hamilton’s performance and was left disappointed after the session. However, George Russell felt that his car lacked enough high-speed grip to maximize his speed on the track. The team is looking to work overnight to analyze these issues and make necessary improvements to both cars for the Sprint Race.

Lewis picked up some floor damage and wasn’t happy with his laps. George felt that he needed to a bit more high-speed grip to go faster, so we are looking at how to make a few improvements overnight.

Further, Shovlin mentioned their goal is to score decent points in the sprint race’s morning. The team viewed this Sprint as valuable preparation for the main race on Sunday, focusing on understanding how their cars perform over longer distances. This strategic approach is aimed to gather crucial data that would help them optimize their race strategy for Sunday’s main event.

Our aim is to score decent points in the Sprint tomorrow morning, but it’s also useful as long run preparation ahead of Sunday’s race.

Certainly, Shovlin believed if Lewis Hamilton didn’t had that floor damaged, he would’ve performed exceptionally well. The team is looking towards the issues to make a few improvements to their car. Fans are really excited to watch the Sprint race and Sunday’s main race as Mercedes been putting a tough competition since last two races.
