Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton is statistically the most successful driver in F1 history and has almost every single record in the sport to his name. Aside from collecting trophies and records, the seven-time world champion has also been recognized by his country for his outstanding achievements in motorsport.

He is among a select few in F1 who have been bestowed with the honor of knighthood by his country, the UK. Below is the list of four drivers who have been knighted:

Lewis Hamilton took to the pinnacle of motorsport like a duck to water, achieving instant success while producing the greatest rookie season in F1 history. After the Mercedes driver won his first World Championship in 2008 in dramatic fashion, he was bestowed the honor of MBE in 2009 by the Queen.

Hamilton got a higher honor in 2021 when he was conferred knighthood after he equaled Michael Schumacher’s record of seven world championships in F1 at the end of the 2020 season. He was knighted by then-Prince of Wales Charles at the end of the 2021 season with his mother, Linda, in attendance.
