Cowboys fans rejoice as CeeDee Lamb agrees to mammoth $136,000,000 deal: “”Jerry Jones woke up”

The CeeDee Lamb-Dallas Cowboys saga is over. After the star wide receiver held out of the preseason and training camp due to wanting a new contract extension, the two sides agreed to one early Monday afternoon.

Lamb inked a four-year deal worth up to $136 million, which is the second highest-paid contract by a non-QB in NFL history.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news on X, writing:

“ESPN Sources: Cowboys and All-Pro WR CeeDee Lamb reached agreement today on a record four-year, $136 million deal that now makes him the second highest-paid non-QB in NFL history. The deal includes a $38 million signing bonus, the largest ever given to a wide receiver. Tory Dandy of CAA negotiated the deal with the Cowboys.”

Upon learning that their star wide receiver is now locked up long-term, Dallas fans were a little upset that the deal wasn’t done months ago. Some fans pointed out how Dallas likely spent more money as the WR market skyrocketed this offseason with multiple wide outs signing extensions worth $30 million or more per season.

Some fans noted how Dallas took their time with the negotiations and likely had to spend more for Lamb, which could affect future contract talks with Dak Prescott and Micah Parsons.

Here’s how fans reacted:

“I’ve always wondered why teams waste time with dudes they know they are going to sign anyway. This could’ve been done before camp,” former NFL WR Torey Smith tweeted.

“Congratulations to the Cowboys on finding more ways to spend tons of money in order to lose in the first round of the playoffs,” one fan said.

“Cowboys are very predictable in paying their stars: Wait, wait, wait until deadline, then pay top of market. On brand,” journalist Andrew Brandt tweeted.

Other fans were (as expected) hyped that Dallas finally reached a long-term deal with Lamb.

Here’s how they reacted:

“LETS FU**ING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO,” one fan tweeted.

“Wow! The Cowboys will definitely win a Super Bowl with CeeDee leading the way,” one optimistic fan said.

“LETS GOOOO,” one fan said.

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is now one of the highest-paid players in NFL history. With his new contract that pays him $34 million per year, Lamb is now the second-highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL.

Lamb trails Minnesota Vikings WR Justin Jefferson, who signed a four-year, $140 million contract extension that includes $110 million guaranteed this offseason. Rounding out the top five highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL are A.J. Brown ($32 million per season), Amon-Ra St. Brown ($30.2 million per season) and Tyreek Hill ($30 million per season).

In total, there are now five wide receivers in the NFL who are making more than $30 million per season. The next wide receiver that could get an extension north of $30 million per year could be Brandon Aiyuk or Ja’Marr Chase.
