Ferrari is still in the midst of the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship, but the arrival of Lewis Hamilton in 2025 is a hot topic, even during the current summer break that the F1 circus is observing.
One of the people most interested in the arrival of the 7-time world champion, currently at Mercedes, is Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque driver will be his new teammate, forming a pairing that is expected—at least on paper—to be the best in 2025 and potentially the most explosive.
However, Charles Leclerc believes that Lewis Hamilton’s arrival will bring more advantages to Ferrari than problems or drawbacks. In an exclusive interview with Motorsport.com, the Monaco-born driver recounted step-by-step what happened last January, during the negotiations that led to Lewis signing a contract with the Prancing Horse.
“Lewis’s arrival had been in the air for some time, but until there’s an official confirmation, you can’t be sure. I knew there was interest from both sides, and in these cases, it’s very likely that an agreement will be reached. I didn’t ask to know more, it’s not part of my role, but I have to say that everyone has always been very open and sincere with me.”
At this point, Charles didn’t hide an important point: Hamilton’s arrival could also give Ferrari a boost when it comes to attracting valuable technical personnel. A powerful magnet that could make Ferrari stronger and more prepared to fight with rivals throughout the entire season.
“The announcement of Lewis joining Ferrari was also reassuring because signing a driver like him is obviously a strong signal. I saw it as a positive choice, starting with the fact that Lewis could facilitate the arrival of very talented people to the team.”
“I want to say that I’m very happy with the way I’ve worked with Carlos (Sainz); he’s an incredible driver, and we’ve overcome very difficult moments during our time at Ferrari.”
“And it’s also thanks to his contribution that we’re improving; we’ve always worked well together. At the same time, when you have a seven-time world champion joining the team, it’s always good news, very interesting, and very motivating.”
“It’s interesting because I’ll be able to learn from one of the best drivers in the entire history of F1, and it’s very motivating because I’m intrigued by the idea of competing with Lewis in equal machinery. For these two reasons, I can’t wait to start this new chapter, but I still want to say that I’ve always gotten along very well with Carlos,” Charles Leclerc concluded.
