“Just him standing on the podium”: Lewis Hamilton’s savage dig at Fernando Alonso goes viral

Lewis Hamilton recently took a savage dig at Fernando Alonso in an official F1 YouTube video. The seven-time world champion commented on Fernando Alonso’s picture on a podium.

Lewis Hamilton has had a fierce rivalry with Fernando Alonso ever since the beginning of his career. When Hamilton joined F1 in 2007, his first teammate was Alonso, the defending world champion at the time.

Both had several on-track collisions with each other, which brewed their rivalry. In 2008, Lewis Hamilton fought with Alonso and clinched his first world championship by just one point.

Fast forward to 2024, they continue to race against each other and are two of the oldest drivers on the grid.

In a recent “Grill The Grid” video by F1’s YouTube channel, a challenge was given to every driver to spot any mistake in some pictures related to the sport. One of the pictures was of Fernando Alonso standing on a podium and holding a Silverstone trophy.

When Lewis Hamilton saw this picture and was asked what was wrong with it, he instantly quipped that the Spaniard standing on the podium was what was wrong.

“What’s wrong with this picture?” the interviewer asked.

“Just him standing on the podium…” Hamilton replied.

He then went on to give the correct answer by saying that the Silverstone trophy was what’s wrong in the picture.

After the video went live on YouTube, several F1 fans clipped the moment and reposted it on social media platforms, making it viral, with one fan account receiving over 5000 likes and several comments on the clip.

Lewis Hamilton on Fernando Alonso’s contract extension with Aston Martin

Lewis Hamilton recently talked about Fernando Alonso’s contract extension with Aston Martin.

Speaking to the media, including Sportskeeda, the Mercedes driver initially joked that he won’t be the oldest driver on the grid after 2024, since Alonso would continue to race in the sport. He then praised the Spaniard for racing at such a high level even at his age. Hamilton also remarked on how Alonso proves human beings’ capabilities to perform as athletes if one’s body is nurtured properly.

“I think it’s a real positive, firstly because it means I’m not the oldest driver here so that’s the best part. But also Fernando is one of the best drivers we’ve had in the sport so for him to continue to be here, continue to have the output that he’s had just shows what’s possible. Just shows the new era of athletes, what the human body can do and continue to do if you nurture it.”

In the current drivers’ championship table, Lewis Hamilton stands in sixth place with 150 points, while Fernando Alonso is in ninth place with only 49 points. Alonso had a brilliant start to the 2023 F1 season, where he bagged podiums and fought with Max Verstappen. In 2024, however, Aston Martin saw a dip in performance which affected Alonso’s form.
