Lewis Hamilton can be Max Verstappen’s real threat for the 2024 world title

Lewis Hamilton seems to be in the best position to challenge Max Verstappen for the 2024 F1 world championship.

Lewis Hamilton is undoubtedly one of the all-time greats in Formula 1 history. The seven-time world champion seemed to have struggled in the past two seasons due to Mercedes’ slump in performance. However, it seems that the British driver is rejuvenated following two victories this year.

Hamilton’s arch rival Max Verstappen has emerged as the dominant driver on the grid during the former’s winless stint. The Dutch driver had a historic record-breaking season in 2023. However, Red Bull no longer enjoys a massive advantage with rivals catching up with the Milton Keynes-based squad on-track this season.

McLaren, Mercedes and Ferrari have all won at least two races this year with the Silver Arrows bagging three victories. As such, 2024 could potentially witness another world title battle between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton.

Lewis Hamilton has higher chances of defeating Max Verstappen than Lando Norris

At the start of the 2024 season, critics believed that Lando Norris would finally have a shot at the F1 world title. The British driver showed promising pace and even battled Verstappen wheel-to-wheel on multiple occasions. Unfortunately, Norris seems to be losing confidence in himself as he even admitted that he doesn’t have what it takes to be a world champion.

On the other hand, Lewis Hamilton is energized after his two victories, the only driver apart from Verstappen to win more than one race. Mercedes has made impressive progress in terms of car development this year. Moreover, Hamilton knows how to deal with high pressure situations much better than the less-experienced Norris.

Lewis Hamilton has not claimed that he is going to have a shot at the title yet. However, the 39-year-old would be planning for the same during the summer break. If the seven-time world champion does manage to challenge Verstappen, it would be the perfect ending to his journey with Mercedes.

Certainly, Lewis Hamilton has the best chance of stopping Max Verstappen from a fourth title. The 39-year-old is no stranger to title fights and this would be no different. However, this would depend immensely on Mercedes’ position in the pecking order after the summer break.
