Oscar Piastri claims Lewis Hamilton winning his 8th Championship in 2024 will not be ‘incredible’

Oscar Piastri had a promising start to his F1 career last year where he even snatched the win at the Qatar GP Sprint and now he wants to aim for more.

McLaren has had quite a promising season in the F1 2023 where they had debuted on a disappointing note.

The papaya squad had made the headlines only three years ago when they snatched the third spot in the World Constructors’ Championship by taking full advantage of the weakness of the Ferrari drivers.

Ever since then, Zak Brown’s team has been one that the pundits and the fans have watched out for for some good results. And when they hit a stagnancy in their performance in 2021 and 2022, they got rid of Daniel Ricciardo to make sure Oscar Piastri brings in new energy.

Oscar Piastri claims Lewis Hamilton winning his 8th Championship in 2024 will not be ‘incredible’

Having signed up for a multi-year contract with McLaren, Daniel Ricciardo jumped onboard their ship but could not man it successfully. At the end of 2022, the team decided they could not continue any further with the Honey Badger since he had not given them the results they had hoped for. During his two-year stint at McLaren, Daniel Ricciardo got one Grand Prix win, but his tenure was scarred with several inconsistencies in performance.

With the young leadership of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, McLaren seemed to be all-set for a great outing in 2023. At the beginning, they performed miserably as Piastri DNF’ed and Norris drew up in the last spot at the season opener in Bahrain. But they managed to turn things around in the second half of last year. And now, Oscar Piastri believes he can only aim for a World Championship since he has already delivered some exemplary performances in his F1 debut.

[Lewis Hamilton winning an 8th Championship in his last season with Mercedes] would not be incredible….Oscar piastri wins first championship is a much better story.

Oscar Piastri reveals very little about the performance of the new McLaren challenger for 2024

As the 2024 F1 season is drawing closer, the teams have all released their respective challengers for the new campaign. McLaren had dropped their livery design for the new year without any prior notice on January 16, and all the other teams had followed. And almost a month later, on February 11, they gave fans a sneak peek at their all-new MCL-38. And their two racers, Piastri and Norris, got to drive the new challengers during the media day.

When Piastri was asked to compare the performance of the new McLaren with the older car from 2023 based on his drive during the media day, the young Australian could not offer much information.

It's hard to say, just because it was wet [during the media day]. You don't really get that many laps. It's on tyres which aren't even the actual tyres we use. So, difficult to compare too many things. But the main thing is, jumped in and felt very comfortable straight away. But, honestly, not a lot more to say than that.

Oscar Piastri said, as reported by GPBlog.

In other news, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris have both claimed that they wish to start 2024 on a positive note and not repeat the errors they had done during the start to last season. During one of their interviews, Piastri even said him and his teammate are ready to start strongly. Thus, their comments indicate that fans can only expect great results from McLaren right from the beginning of the 2024 F1 season, but it remains to be seen if they can live up to their tall claims when the time comes.
