Lewis Hamilton, the former seven-time world champion, has changed the landscape of the sport with his recent 2025 Ferrari announcement. He has shot the driver market into utter chaos and with the 2024 season less than two weeks away, Mercedes boss, Toto Wolff has claimed that nothing has changed on his team.
Toto Wolff and the people at Mercedes are treating the upcoming season in the same way in which they have approached past seasons. For the Brackley-based team, the goal is still to maximize its potential at every race weekend.
Nothing has changed for us this year, our focus remains the same. We have two excellent drivers. In George, we have a quick, talented, and intelligent driver behind the wheel. A strong foundation for the future. In Lewis, we have a motivated multiple-world champion, and we want to make his final year with us as successful as we can.
Looking at the comments of the Austrian, it is quite clear that Mercedes is going to come out all guns blazing during the 2024 F1 season. Moreover, he has also indicated that the team would look to have as successful a year as possible with Lewis Hamilton during his farewell campaign.
Would Mercedes be able to take the fight to Red Bull in 2024?
While Toto Wolff has indicated that having Hamilton in his last season with Mercedes has not changed anything going into the 2024 season, what remains to be seen is how potent the W15 will prove to be this year. Especially considering that their 2023 challenger proved to be quite a difficult car to get on top of.
Mercedes has so far had a struggle under the current set of regulations and thus, hasn’t been able to match the might of Red Bull. In comparison to the Milton-Keynes-based team’s 860 points, Wolff and co. were only able to conjure up 409 last year.
However, with a new season, comes new opportunities to make things right. The 2024 F1 testing is just a few hours away and it will make things a bit clearer as to where all the teams are in comparison to each other. If Mercedes’s W15 proves potent, the team could be seen in the fight for the coveted World Championship.
